Apres ski at Pine Ridge Hollow

After cross-country skiing at Birds Hill today, my husband and daughter and I followed this lovely winter path through the woods to Pine Ridge Hollow, where we stopped to enjoy some hot cider and shared a cinnamon bun.

On leaving an hour later, the solar-lit lamps along the path were also glowing with a soft light to mark the path and help visitors find their way back to their vehicles. The outdoor lighting at Pine Ridge very much reminds me of a winter visit, years back, to a winter ski resort where portions of the cross-country ski trails, as one approached the lodge, were similarly lit. I love the sense of warmth and welcome that this type of lighting brings to a cold winter landscape.

The lights, which are particularly inviting on dark nights in this forest setting, are a charming touch for any garden, winter or summer.  Closer to Pine Ridge Hollow, a series of hanging solar lamps, mounted on poles alongside the walkway, glowed through lace–patterned globe shades, creating intricate patterns on the snow. Two of the lamps, not yet glowing, are visible in the lower image of the archway.
