Nesting Swans in Kolding, Denmark in Springtime

Swans are “everywhere” in Denmark, and it was so beautiful to see these nesting swans in Kolding, Denmark. The elegant swan is among the most photographed and perhaps most loved birds in the world.  I have certainly enjoyed seeing swans in the protected waterways of North American public parks, but to see them in their natural nesting areas, abundant in urban areas in Europe, was a real delight. The lovely towns and cities, gorgeous landscaping, and natural setting of the parklands in Denmark form a perfect backdrop and almost set the stage for a pair of swans to float across a lake at dusk. It’s a captivating sight, and one that the folks in Denmark enjoy on a daily basis.

The photographs in this series were taken in Kolding, Denmark, as my husband and I took a walk around the town lake. I’ve included a shot of the Kolding castle beside the lake to give you a “place setting” for these images. After walking the perimeter of the lake, and taking in the wonderful blend of new and old architecture, we went through a short stretch of residential area to then walk around another small lake.

The photos of the nesting swans were taken on this second lake, and also further along on a little stream nearby, feeding into the larger lake.

I will be sure to post other photographs for you in this file later on, and add a few notes about the swan itself, but thought that for my Canadian Cookie Buxton followers I would brighten a fall day in September with images of swans taken in their nesting season beside a castle lake in Kolding, Denmark.
